• I’m missing the Page links on top of my page which is VERY LIKELY due to some modifications made by myself. But I just can’t figure out why!

  • Your site’s content & settings are stored in your database. Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

Thanks for the reply, I have tried these steps, and I am currently using the default theme.

I suppose I will simply reload the theme again, however, this is unfortunate to lose all the changes and modifications I have tried.

    Thanks again, appreciate it!

You shouldn’t modify the default or Twenty Ten theme as all of your changes will be lost when you upgrade WordPress. You need to look at creating a child theme instead.

I see that I have skipped this step altogether. My mods were all made through the WP editor, would that not be acceptable?

It appears I have learned the hard way, but I guess that is why it’s called “development”. Thanks again for the assistance.

Doesn’t matter where you make the mods – they’ll still be over-written when you upgrade WordPress.

I’m glad I ran into this trouble, even though it means a lot more work as we need the WP interface to be upgradable. I’m under the understanding that the default theme = parent theme…functioning theme = child theme.

Any theme can act as a parent theme. The whole point is to have all the functionality of the parent theme, yet retain modifications and additions in the child.

And in addition, have a parent theme to fall back on if any issues occur. Do you regularly backup your changes? If so, how?

I edit all of my theme files on my local machine and FTP the changed files into the theme’s folder on the remote server. So I always have a theme backup locally.
