• The new site and forums look great, but does anyone else hate the new look of the Codex? I have to scroll for 5 hours to get to the bottom of the page because it’s so narrow.

I mean, I don’t run 800×600 for a reason. I liked it before how the content was full width on my 1600×1200 desktop. ??

  • Yeah, I say give it some time. I like the fact that both the main site and the codex look related. This way new users are not freaked out on their first visit to the codex. On that note, I don’t have the MonoBook option in my skin section.

Neither do I have the option of changing the skin.

Additionally the forums seem to be throwing up a lot of 404 errors.

Yes, the Monobook skin was *deprecated* soon after this discussion started. I’ve no idea why.

Yep. (If you get a 404 error visiting that thread, keep reloading the page until it clears.)

EDIT: 3 seconds that time. Gotta get some sleep…

I have to agree, the look seems to be a step down. The font is so BIG I feel like I’m reading a 3rd grade book. Hopefully things will settle into place soon, and/or we’ll all get used to the changes around here.

Having said that, I’m trying out 2.0 now and the only headache I’ve run into is the editor. ARGH!!! !@#!#@%#

    Yes.

arggggg I don’t want to refresh anymore.
Gosh for every post I have to refresh like ten times.
    I know change is growth.
But I don’t want to refresh anymore

Well, i do appreciate the unified look and feel. It’s exciting to have 2.0 out and the whole place look new and fresh.

however, i reduce the type by 3 and it’s more my style now…

more screen real estate, more information at a glance.

    But that’s me…

It’s a live redesign, they’re very web 2.0 you know. ?? Heh, don’t worry about it, things will be better in a couple of days. The codex is usable, as are the forums, if a little buggy.

Boy, I’m frustrated. There are a few things in my wordpress blogs 1.5 that I needed to get a little bit more educated on, like perma-links and the such. However, the new codex has a number of problems:

    1) Like other have commented- the general layout is too spread out, there’s too much whitespace. I used to be able to look at the main screen and pretty much find what I was looking for.
1b) You tell me to log into the codex, well- I have an account. When I log in, I get a blank screen. Even the source is blank. I delete my cookie and try again. Same problem. Also, you shouldn’t have to create an account and log in to have a functional codex. The old codex was just fine. THis new reliance on the wordpress stylesheet is kind of cumbersome when you’re trying to parse a lot of information.
    2) The codex can’t be searched from within the codex, nor from the support forums.
    3) I don’t know if what’s in the codex applies to 1.5 or 2.0… I’m concerned that the support I’ll be looking for will not apply to the version I’m running.

I want to upgrade to wordpress 2.0, but I’m not confident that I’ll be able to adequately get the support I need, mainly because the search functions in support and codex don’t work.

I was originally going to do this upgrade a month ago and noticed these problems. I figured I’d hold off until they got sorted out, I konw a new lauch of anything takes time to get the wrinkles out, but how long do I have to wait before I can get support on either the old or the new version of wordpress?

    Help!

I created a new account and was able to log in and select the “monobook” preference. I remember doing this back before the upgrade when I needed something that the regular view of codex didn’t supply. I do remember that the monobook view killed a bunch of useful links that were on the left. That still seems to be the case, from my vague memory.

I do think that the monobook feel of the wiki is something that people are comfortable with and works well. I don’t see in this case a reason to have the new wordpress formatting used on it. I’d highly suggest going to monobook as default and letting people select the wordpress layout if and when they log in.

Thanks for all your hard work. I hope the old articles that were there are still there so’s I can get back to work.
