Come on! Since the last update, every time you log into WordPress a “spam” message for a theme preview is shown. Any way to remove it? Or I have to come back to old version?

    Hi @elbores,

I checked the latest version of the menu icon plugin but couldn’t see any message. Would you please share a screenshot?

Each time you log this notification is shown. It doesn’t matter of you hide it

Seems to be solved after updating wordpress

We’re glad to hear the issue was solved in the meantime!

I’m getting the same issue, but am already on wordpress 5.9.2, so can’t update at the moment.

Can this be looked into further please.

    Thanks.

    Hi @pixelkituk!

Please provide us a screenshot with the message you are referring to.

    Thank you!

It’s the same as what Raul posted above in his screenshot. Hence the same issue. Only difference is I’m using English UK WordPress 5.9.2

    Thanks

    Hi @pixelkituk!

Unfortunately I can’t replicate this, the notice doesn’t reappear for me after closing it, but I’ve forwarded this to our developer to see what could be done about it.

Thank you and have a nice day!

    Hi @luciamarinescu

So I’ve done a bit more investigating. I just upgraded to WordPress 5.9.3 but it still appears.

I then wondered if it could be caused by my caching plugin. I use Siteground Optimizer. After deactivating this I was able to hide the notification, clear my browser cache and re-login and it was still hidden.

After activating the caching plugin, it re-appeared. I can’t not use my caching plugin, as it significantly increases my site speed.

I’ve been using this caching plugin for the last 4 updates to your plugin, and it has only been a problem with the your latest version (as at the time of writing this), and all other notifications that appear due to other plugin updates, happily hide and stay hidden, many of which have been very recent.

Maybe this will help your developer, as I don’t know if the other person who reported this is using the same caching plugin.

    Thanks

Thanks for providing your insight on this! Hopefully it will be fixed in the next update of the plugin.

@kzeni yep it is still a problem with the latest version. It definitely is a caching issue, as I disabled my caching plugin again and was able to hide the notice permanently. As soon as I activate it again, boom the notice comes back.

I’ve personally given up and uninstalled this plugin. Even though it’s free, I don’t want to be spammed with adverts for a theme. If I wanted a theme I would look up “Themes” not this type of plugin!

There is an easy fix by removing the notice from the plugin altogether.

I brought this back up with the plugin devs with more details with it likely being related to relying on a transient value (which then isn’t guaranteed to be retained for any amount of time due to the nature of transients) for determining the status of the message and suggested it be switched over to being stored as a setting/option for more consistent & reliable behavior.

https://github.com/Codeinwp/wp-menu-icons/issues/206 shows they’re making updates to implement the suggested behavior to address this.

@kzeni that makes sense. I hope they look into your suggestion ??

    Hello @elbores, @pixelkituk and @kzeni!

We released a new version of the plugin (0.13.0) which includes a fix for this issue.

    Thank you!
