Hi everyone, I have just followed the very helpful and very easy install procedure, and I am now the proud owner of my very own hosted, wordpress blog! ??

My question is, is there any vital after install things that I have to do in order for my wordpress to be secure? Such as deleting the install script so that it cant be used maliciously etc..

I have looked through the documentation, and it seems that once wordpress is installed, job done?

Is that right, or do I have to delete some of the install files from my server ASAP otherwise my blog can be easily hacked?

Many thanks for any and all help!

    John ??

  • an important question to ask yourself,

Do you want your blog & posts to be public?
Do you want it to be open to comments?
Do you want people to be forced to register before commenting? (recommendation is: no. Allow comments without registeration.)

Do you want your blog indexed / noticed by search engines? (If no then you must take steps to hide it with robots.txt)

Privacy-wise, the above questions would be important to tweak it now if you happen to want a more private blog.

Security-wise, you’re all set and ready to go (at least once you put your API key in the Akismet plugin and make sure it is activated).

you can, and ought to delete install.php

It’s also safe to delete upgrade.php.

do NOT delete wp-admin/upgrade-functions.php — that file is called and used when plugins need to create tables.

Thanks for the help guys! I’ve checked my settings and deleted install.php and upgrade.php

If those are the only things I have to do, i’ll best mark this “RESOLVED” ??

    Thanks again!
