• Hello,
we are running a pretty large website with around 50 different sidebars for different page-sections. Every single sidebar contains up to 8 widgets.

The problem: It’s very hard to edit these sidebars, it seems, that it’s freezing when we try to include/exclude a widget via drag&drop on the widgets-page. It takes up to 10 seconds, until the new inserted widget appears in the selected sidebar and then it’s also very lazy when we try moving it to another position.

Is this problem caused by WordPress? Or wasn’t the plugin planned to deal with such an amount of sidebars and widgets?

Do you know any trick to fix this issue?

    Thanks for your help!

  • Hey there mattce,

    Hope you’re well today!

It’s possible that with such big number of sidebars your widgets page is slow since both Custom Sidebars and WordPress attach javascript handlers to all sidebars to recognize drag-and-drop actions, these might additionally slow down the process.

Also the widget that is displayed in the sidebar after the server (WordPress) confirmed that it was saved, so it’s possible that the ajax call takes too long to save the widget.

I could forward this to our plugin developer so we could try to optimize the code for future versions of the plugin in case the plugin is causing this.

    Best regards,
    Bojan
