When setting up categories, everything is under the parent category of “Blog” which comes with WP out of the box. My gut is that I should just delete this category, as literally 100% of blog posts fit into it.

But I’m also aware that plugins and whatnot make use of categories, and there are situations I maybe can’t foresee.

So my question is: do you see any point in keeping this “blog” category? Has anyone made use of it in some way? Or is it safe to delete, and simply have the parent categories I’ve made myself? Is there a best practice in this situation?

    Thanks!

  • I thought the default category was “Uncategorized” on a default WordPress install.

Regardless, it’s perfectly fine to delete/rename it. Plugins use categories, but if they rely on the default category name (whether that’s “blog” or “uncategorized”), then they’re doing something wrong. ??
