Any new page causing 404 error when a post is viewed

Now here’s an odd one –

When ever I create a new page my rewrite rules suddenly seem to fail. In trying to fix the problem I tried all the ususl (set the permalinks back to default and then try again, delete ‘.htaccess’ and let WP recreate it, etc.), but none of that worked.

The thing that I have found solves my problem is moving the page to trash and then restoring it. Simple as that and now everything works. It seemed really odd and not right, so I created a few dummy pages, and sure enough, everytime this is what fixed the problem.

Has anyone else encountered this? If so, does any body know of a proper fix so that me forgetting to trash and restore a page doesn’t screw my site up!!
