Since SharedCount is lowering the free threshold from 50,000 requests a day to 10,000 requests a day, this means that many of us will be required to pay a minimum of $40 a month to continue this service.

I like what this plugin does and I realize that SharedCount is a service that is a separate entity from the developer of Mashshare, however I’m not likely to continue using some buttons and numbers that cost more than my website hosting.

Is there a “share counting” service that Mashshare can hook into?

  • Hi,

i am currently rewriting the Plugin from scratch so that there is no need to sharedcount.com any longer than.

Release will be in the next days.

That’s great to hear Rene especially after buying an add-on.

    thanks

Is there any update on this? Seems there was a big revision but we still need Sharedcount. $40 is a bit steep but my numbers are not accurate. I’ll have to discontinue using this if we still rely on SC.

    Hello brvce,

i had first to fix all the issues and will now continue the developing of an additional Add-On which gets rid off SC.

But i wonder that your shares are not accurate. SC is working very reliable and delivers accurate numbers for all my projects.

I’m guessing that once I hit their daily threshold the updates stop ?
I easily hit 50K by lunch time…the 10 K limit seems to be an issue.

Ok as a workaround increase the cache time to anything about 3-6hours or so. Hope this is enough until lunch time. (Wished i had the same traffic:-))

Check if the sharedcount API key is working properly:
    https://free.sharedcount.com/?url=https://www.yoursite.de&apikey=YOUR_APIKEY_HERE

This should result in something like:

    {“StumbleUpon”:0,”Reddit”:0,”Facebook”:{“commentsbox_count”:0,”click_count”:0,”total_count”:56,”comment_count”:1,”like_count”:30,”share_count”:25},”Delicious”:0,”GooglePlusOne”:1,”Buzz”:0,”Twitter”:0,”Diggs”:0,”Pinterest”:0,”LinkedIn”:0}

I am still writing on the new code…and some days more.

Try, pumble.com. You’ll like it better.

Has there been any update on the removal of ShareCount dependancy?

Unfortunately, i have to work on several features parallel. Thats why it delays for some more time:(

I am already looking for a developer who could help me in this and would be interested in a long term cooperation (paid work of course) If you know someone who is free for work i would be delighted to hear from you. This could accelerate the future development of Mashshare massive.

A github boilerplate for starting development of Mashshare Add-Ons can be found here and a lot of code for an external API is already written by me but its not finished and ready for productive envirenment: https://github.com/mashshare/MASHSB-Add-On-Boilerplate

    + 1 on this!

I’ve tested several similar plugins and so far this is absolutely the best. Really appreciate your work and effort on this one!

I’d hate to stop using it (only a matter of time before I exceed the quota) just because it’s dependent on third party service which seems to me totally overpriced with feature that I don’t even necessarily need.

    Hi Elli,

    thanks for your kind words.
For the moment, just increase the cache expire time to something like 2-6 hours. This helps so that even even larger websites will not run into any quote issues.

Hi! Thanks for the hint, will do that if my quota runs out. That might be thou not the best solution? Afaik posts are somewhat valued based on their shares. More shares, more clicks, more shares ??

Like I said, I have actually lost count of how many plugins for social sharing I have tested. Most of them seem to be a total overkill with the features, admin thingies, scripts and css. Not to mention the thing that I value most; that beeing able to control exactly the position, where I like the share buttons to be.

And that said, this is really the first plugin, that I see my self considering buying even addons. But with the third party solution, which is like one commenter earlier stated, more than hosting expences per month, I am really really looking forward to a version that is not dependent on it ??

Off topic, I might have run into few small bugs. Can I report them to the official support site?

Your review is awesome. I wish you could write the same wordings into the wordpress review section of mashshare – if you have not done this before of course:)

Feel free to post all the issues you run into and i will fix them asap.

Again: i am very happy to see that mashshare fulfill your requirements. If you are missing anything or if you have any suggestions for improvements just let me know.

    Thanks and best regards,
    Rene
