    Like many others, I’m trying to figure out how to rename my permalinks. As I understand it, it should be as easy as using the /%postname%/ permalink naming convention and then changing a page’s slug accordingly. However, this doesn’t seem to be working, and I’m wondering why.

    For example, I have an “about us” page on my site which of course defaults to the name myurl.com/?page_id=16. Obviously, I want this to read “myurl.com/about-us” for SEO purposes, amongst others, so I…
    1. changed the slug of the about us page to “about-us”;
    2. changed the permalinks setting to “custom” with “/%postname%/” in the field;
    3. verified that the permalink has been set to “myurl.com/about-us” in the about us page edit section.

    Now when I click on the link for “about us,” the browser tries to go to myurl.com/about-us but I get a “not found” error. As far as I can tell I’ve done everything correctly – can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated…

    Bump! Anyone?

    I’m by no means an expert, just a couple of things to try till someone more knowledgeable than me comes along. From what you described you did, the permalinks should work. Did you click the “Update” button? Obvious, I know, but I forget to do that sometimes.

    Another thing you can try is manually type in the “myurl.com/about-us”, instead of using the link, to see if the page is actually there.

    Hi CD, thanks a lot for the feedback – as it turns out, I figured out the issue as you were responding. My setup was correct, but the reason it wasn’t working is that there was a conflict with a directory setting in my httpd.conf file. Once I sorted that out, I was golden.

    Thanks again for the response!
