• Hi,

I’m having this same problem, but only at certain times. The first time I try to login during a new browser session, the login box hangs with the “checking credentials” message displaying. I can exit the modal box and login to the site using the standard WP login page and I get into the site. Subsequent login attempts with the modal dialog box are successful. If I close the browser, then start a new session, I’m back to the hanging box for the initial login to the site. This happens for my admin role, and for several “dummy” subscribers that I use for testing.

I’m using Windows XP SP3, WordPress 3.5.2, and I’m getting the same experience using both Firefox ver. 22 and IE ver. 8. I’m using a plugin named “Anti-Captcha” which I disabled, but to no effect.

The solution another user found several weeks ago doesn’t apply to me as I don’t have that code in the php file that he referenced.

    Ideas?

Full disclosure: while I’m reasonably computer literate, I’m relatively new to blogging. I’ve done no customization that requires writing code at this point.

    Thanks, Jack

I have been hearing others using w3total cache with similar issues? You wouldn’t happen to have that installed do you?

    Hi Cole,

No, I don’t have that plugin installed. This problem is weird as it only occurs the first time I try logging in after I start my browser.

I’ve had to disable this plugin until (hopefully) a solution is found. That’s a real shame because I really like this plugin.

I’m sorry about that. At this moment I have been unable to duplicate. It seems there may be a configuration issue on your site? Do you have a link available for me to look closer at the issue?

    Hi Cole,

Thanks for responding. When you ask for a link, I assume you mean a link to the blog site?

    That’s here.

I have WP Modal Login deactivated at the moment due to the problem. I’ll go to the site now and activate it.

    Thanks for your time,

Cole, when I went to my blog, I noticed you had released version 2.0.6 so I upgraded to it hoping for the best. Unfortunately, I still have the same problem with hanging on “Checking Credentials”.

Due to the problem, I have labeled the Login as “Experimental Login”, with the regular WP login below (so folks can still get in if the modal box fails).

Another thing I noticed: I can predict when the login will fail as the modal box has a visual clue…the little cancel X in the upper right corner is compressed into a small vertical line. When the X appears normally, the login proceeds properly.

    Wish I had better news.

I tested your copy and it’s doing something very odd… The request is being canceled for some reason. https://cl.ly/image/3t3M0j0j1A13

Looks like you only have one other plugin installed? anti-captcha? Is there any other plugins you have running that I’m missing? I’m gonna try and duplicate your setup and see if I’m able to duplicate this. What host are you using also?

    Hi Cole,

I just finished upgrading my WordPress minutes ago to version 3.6. Before doing the update, I disabled ALL the plugins. After the update was complete, I activated the WP Modal Login plugin ONLY.

    No joy!

Re-cap: the problem occurs when I try an initial login during a browser session. I have to use the standard WordPress login to get in. However, subsequent logins during that browser session succeed. If I end the browser session, then re-open the browser later, the initial login fails.

My site is hosted by 1and1. I’ve tried this on two different computers at two locations. Happens with Firefox 22 and IE 8.

I have other plugins, but with ALL disabled, problem continues.
    List of other plugins:
    Akismet
    Anti-Captcha
    Avatar Tooltip
    BackWPup
    Erident Custom Login and Dashboard
    Link Manager
    Post Views Stats
    Simple Local Avatars
    Subscribe2
    Unattach and Re-attach Media Attachments
    WordPress Importer
Peter’s Login Redirect (not using – deactivated)
Theme My Login (not using – deactivated)

I hope you didn’t try looking at the site while I was in the process of upgrading ??

Thanks for taking time to look!

    Cole,

With your impending plans, I realize you may not be able to pursue this issue for awhile. Therefore I’m going to deactivate this plug-in for the time being.

I really would like to solve the problem and use your plug-in. If down the road you have some time to spend on it, please let me know and I’ll activate the plug-in so we can take another look at it.

    Thanks,
    Jack

P.S. Hope the wedding goes well. Congratulations!

Just moments ago I actually hit some similar issues with another ajax function I’m building for work. I think I may have a fix for this issue once and for all.

I plan to update the plugin in the coming days. Hopefully this is the answer! Thanks for your support ??

I’m having the same issue. Getting the “Checking Credentials…” then hanging. It is not a conflict with my theme (Responsive) as it was working. I deleted the theme completely and started from scratch and still have the same problem. It could be a plugin conflict, but I have no idea which one. Do you have any suggestions?

    Hi Cole,

I noticed your “short support” notice has been pulled so I’ve assumed that you’re back now.

Several months ago you wrote that you had a similar issue to this one with an ajax function and that you might have a fix for this problem.

    Anything to report yet?

    Thanks,
    Jack

I am back and able to put some focus back on the plugin, but my schedule is still crazy and it’s hard to dedicate efficient time on this plugin. I’m actually seeking and urging others to help contribute as I can’t push this plugin to the next level alone ??

As for the similar issue, it didn’t seem to be the fix. I’m hoping to eventually be able to re-tackle this issue soon.

@order@inteset.com – I checked over your site and it seems to be working? However I don’t have login access, but in general this error happens even with a failed login. Were you able to find a solution to your issue?

    Cole,

Glad to see you’re back with us. I have temporarily disabled the plugin while you were indisposed. If you get time to look again into this issue, please let me know and I’ll activate the plugin so you can again review the problem.

    Thanks for responding.

    Regards,
    Jack
