• I have been working on this for hours and hours. I have followed the directions on GoDaddy, WordPress and various tutorials online.

I used Filezilla to upload the files and used the Host, Username and password (don’t know what the Port is) accordingly and it looks like all 605 files transferred. When I go to my blog address, https://www.lactblogs.com , but using https://www.lactblogs.com/wp-admin/install.php I get the following error –repeatedly.

The page you tried to access does not exist on this server. This page may not exist due to the following reasons:

    1. You are the owner of this web site and you have not uploaded (or incorrectly uploaded) your web site. For information on uploading your web site using FTP client software or web design software, click here for FTP Upload Information.

    2. The URL that you have entered in your browser is incorrect. Please re-enter the URL and try again.

    3. The Link that you clicked on incorrectly points to this page. Please contact the owner of this web site to inform them of this situation.

So at this point, I want to cry out of frustration. It SHOULD be simple according to GoDaddy & WordPress’s information manuals, but it is SO not.

  • My site is currently Windows hosted…if I switch to Linux will that give me access to the root?

the root is / at godaddy
however, wordpress will not work on a windows server at godaddy
you will need to switch to linux

    Hmm…I think I get it.

If I am understanding this correctly then – I should change the URI settings on my WordPress site to redirect there instead of “/wordpress”. Then just FTP all of my WordPress files (but not the WordPress folder) into the “/” directory, correct?

Next is adjust permalinks and image paths if neccessary and I am good to go.

    Right? ::crosses fingers::

    sounds like you have it
when you change the 2 url’s in wordpress admin – do not try to access site until files are moved to root

I just uploaded all of my files into the “/” directory. But now my page is entirely blank. Just white. Why would this happen?

The permalinks were already adjusted using the pagination plug-in fix to redirect here:

    /index.php/%category%/%postname%

I am also missing some of my plugins. I assume they are now just in the wrong place?

    Thanks in advance!

you will likely need to reset the permalinks
I can’t think of any reason plugins would be “missing”

They were just in the wrong place…all better now.

Thanks so much for the help! So glad I didn’t have to start again.

    nice – clean theme

PLEASE HELP- I get the same error as the lady who post on this thread at the very top. I am using the magazine basic theme for wordpress/go daddy. Whenever I am on the admin and I click on the magazine basic options to get to the page where I can upload the header, that page will not come up. Also anytime I click to save the any changes I have made to the theme, I get the error above.
    can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Beckie
