• Hi guys I’ve only been web designing for a while so I’ll do my best to explain what I need help with.

I’m creating a multi site and I want to design all the themes myself. I am using the genesis framework which will be the parent theme. The current problem I have is – I will be designing many child themes that will all be similar – they will all share the same php, html (and some main css) changes, the only differences between theses child themes will be skin changes – using CSS and images only. So the problem is, if I have created many child themes and I want to make PHP, HTML, function changes or have some code errors, I will have to keep going back to each child theme to make these changes.

Basically, I would prefer to make the major changes to the framework parent theme so I then can have child themes just to skin only (using CSS and images) but as this would cause problems with upgrading, I would like to ask if its possible to have 1 main child theme where I make the main changes to the framework, then 2nd child themes for that main child theme where I can make the CSS and image changes.

Or is there an alternative solution?

    Thanks

Probably best to ask about this on the Genesis community forums as you are using a genesis theme. You can’t have a child theme of a child theme, but you can add a function to include a drop-down option in the theme’s admin to select different colour schemes and customize layouts & images.

OK thanks for the reply I’ll look into it.

I generally use Jetpack’s CSS editor to customize CSS per site.
