At the outset, I’ve searched for similar problems and read the solutions and confirmed mysql, php and jave runtime are up to snuff. I’ve tried the tinymce patch. I’ve deactivated plugins and confirmed visual editor is enabled. Nothing works. My problem is slightly different than the others I’ve read:

The WYSIWYG tools and buttons are there, but they don’t work. I get a Javascript error like this:

    $lang_insert_link_title
    $lang_insert_link_url and a box
    $lang_insert_link_target and a box
    and so forth.

Same sort of error message for insert/edit image.

The error window cannot be closed gracefully. I have to CTL-ALT-DEL to escape.

In the meantime, I can still enter the code for links and images, but that visual editor sure would be nice to use.

    Has anyone any new suggestions?

Oops. Sorry, apparently, this is the way it is supposed to work…you fill in the fields and away you go…right?

Editorial comment: the way in 2.0.X way way better.

what browser you are using? can you switch to Firefox 2 just for troubleshooting purposes?

I’m using IE 6 and 7 and no, I actually prefer IE to FF.

Is my assumption correct? This is the way it is supposed to work with 2.1?

Spoke too soon. I was successful using the insert/edit image visual tool from home this morning (XP, IE) but it still returns Javascript errors on two different systems at work (one XP, one W2K, both IE). This is very frustrating.

Not sure if anyone is even reading this, but I have confirmed the visual tools do work on my home computer, but not on my two work systems. So obviously it’s something on my client machines. Both are fully patched and running the latest version of Java runtime. I’ve cleared their cache repeatedly.

    Any ideas out there?

I’ve quit fighting this and just converted to FF. Everything works fine in FF.

welcome to FF ?? BTW, it had nothing to do with JAVA runtime. javascript is a different beast. javascript support may have been disabled by accident or by design.
