Hi I posted this 7 months back and it is marked as ‘Resolved’, but the problem is still there – it is SO annoying. Any progress on this?

    Original support request:

Hi there, can you please change the way the splash screen appears in the WordPress back-end after updating the plugin.

What happens (every time) is that I update multiple plugins, including All In One SEO, then when I go to do something else on wordpress (like update the core etc.) suddenly the All in One SEO splash screen appears instead (ie. Welcome to All in One SEO Pack 3.2.4).

    Here’s the process I experience:
    1. go to WordPress updates and select all plugins that need updating
    2. press the blue update button and wait for the process to complete
    3. notice there are theme/core/other plugins to update in the top bar
    4. go back to the updates section and highlight the items to update
    5. press update
    6. ALL IN ONE SEO SPLASH SCREEN!

It’s a minor inconvenience, I know, but isn’t there some other way you can show update information without ‘cancelling out’ any other thing I try to do in favour of showing the splash screen?

We’re aware of this and we’ve got an issue open for it but the way WordPress works it’s going to be very difficult to fix. Many plugins display a splash screen after updating to a major new version and they are all going to have this same problem because of the way that updates are handled.

We’ll continue to look for a way to fix this and see if we can fix it independently of WordPress but it may require a change in the core WordPress code to provide plugins with a way to detect when additional updates are happening so that redirects are suppressed.

Thanks for the reply. My question is – do you really need to show a splash screen? Out of all the plugins I regularly use, I think I’ve only seen one other do this after updates. Couldn’t you just add a checkbox in the settings that says ‘disable splash screen’? After all, I clicked on update so I don’t really need reminding that the result of this is an update!

We feel the splash screen helps to alert our users when we release major new features. This is why we only display it on certain releases where it’s important to notify users of the new features so they can take advantage of them.

Many users don’t read the changelog or our announcement posts, and new features to do with SEO are usually quite important as they may pertain to a change that search engines have made.

To be honest, the updates you’ve released that are causing a splash screen, are not that major to warrant such an annoying notification method. Plus, that’s what a changelog is for…

The latest release, v3.4.3 of All in One SEO should resolve the issue with notices reappearing after you dismiss them. They should now stay dismissed. Make sure you clear any caching including browser caching which can cache notices.

This thread wasn’t about the notices we can dismiss, it was about the splash screen after EVERY update.

Your comment “We feel the splash screen helps to alert our users when we release major new features.” is not valid as the last few times I’ve seen this splash screen it has been EXACTLY the same content.

You already have a persistent “SEO News” section in the WordPress Dashboard for keeping users updated anyway.

If you need us to see this screen to push signups to the PRO version (now that your plugin has been purchased by a new company) then please say that, rather than justifying it for other reasons.
