    Hi everyone,

Hope you can help. When I’m editing a page, as I start to type the backend left-hand menu (where Dashboard, Pages, Plugins, Users etc. are listed) automatically disappears as does the righthand column with “Publish”, “Themes” “Attributes” etc. This causes the viewable area of the text editor box to increase which in turn means the text I’m adding/editing jumps position.

It’s a bit of a pain and also means that I have to hover the mouse over the missing lefthand area to get the menu to show again and to see the “Preview”/”Publish” bar on the righthand column. The page is jumping about all over the place, it is minimising and maximising at will! It’s really getting in the way of smoothly working on a page.

Any suggestions on how to stop this happening? My apologies if the correct terms for the areas I’m describing are not correct. Many thanks.

Believe it or not, you are in “Distraction Free” writing mode ??

The idea being to clear the screen of extraneous elements not immediately needed for writing. It takes some getting used to and it’s not for everyone.

You can toggle it on and off with Shift-Alt-W.

    Hi,

Thanks for your swift reply, you are a lifesaver! I didn’t know it was called “Distraction Free”.

Just a quick note for reference, Shift-Alt-W didn’t work on my machine as I use a MAC, however it does toggle off with Control, Option, W.

    Thanks again!
