em and strong tags at beginning of post mess with formatting

Hi there,

Recently, we’ve noticed that when we are using the “excerpt” option on the widget, if the excerpt contains an element that is being adjusted by em or strong tags, the rest of the text in the widget also is styled as if surrounded by em and strong tags. When you inspect those elements, it appears that this is the case.

Clearly what is happening is that the excerpt is not including the closing tags for the modifiers, which should be a pretty easy feature to add.
