Anchors on Timeline

I have a very long timeline with several image galleries per year stretching from 1975 down to 1910. My client has asked if it is possible to place some year links at the top of the page so the user can go direct to that year rather than having to scroll all the way down. I have tried to add anchor links to the various years but cannot seem to get this to work. Any ideas please?
