We are using the WP Google Analytics Events plugin. The update we received on June 9, 2021 caused many anchor tags to lead to <site URL OR current URL>/undefined. It happens with anchor tags on both internal and external links. The link in the anchor tag is correct (for instance, Rt click > Open Link in New Tab works in Chrome). It is the act of clicking on the anchor that is causing the failure.

Deactivating the plugin resolves the issue (and obviously also disables our event analytic tracking). We have fixed the site, so we do not have a broken version to show. However, we can reproduce the error if needed by turning the plugin back on. There are no related JS console errors.

Is there any explanation for why this latest update is causing these behaviors? What can we do to troubleshoot and get these analytics restored?

We have confirmed that version 2.6.2 resolves our problem. It has been working since yesterday. Thank you very much for the quick resolution. Well done!

Unfortunately issue still exists here with 2.6.2…

Updated again to make another test, cleared cache, and getting 404 from menu permalinks. Rollback to 2.6.0 and it works again.

@mseb can you post a link to the page and point me to such a link? I may be able to see what’s going on.

Yes sure, just head to wroclawguide.com and select either book or shop from the main navigation menu, with anything above 2.6.0 that won’t work. But now I am running on 2.6.0 again, do you want me to update to 2.6.2 for a couple of minutes?

In addition, not sure if that is a co-incidence or not, since the day this has happened the first time, we see a huge drop in organic traffic in Analytics (-80%) while in Search Console the clicks are quite stable…

Yes, if it’s still possible. So far I couldn’t see why it happens with 2.6.2

Ok done now and cache cleared, will leave it active for one hour now before rollback again as it means that the shop won’t be available.

Just to make sure that I get the use case right, I should click the ‘Book’ or Shop buttons on the top navigation bar?

They seem to be working as far as I can see.

    Yuval

Correct… now I found out, when I am logged out all seems to work fine but when I am logged in as Admin, the issue persists. Why could that be?

Interesting. Could be a conflict with another plugin.
Our client-side scripts are the same regardless of the user.

Do you happen to have a staging environment where we could try and see it?

I can set up one… How can I best submit login details to you?
