    Hi,
Optimising the home page of a site.
It has one <h1> on this homepage … this being the title
    Checked with this tool: https://www.seoreviewtools.com/html-headings-checker/
There is one <h1> on the page … the first thing stated etc …

… and yet Yoast Analysis Results flags this as

Single title: H1s should only be used as your main title. Find all H1s in your text that aren’t your main title and change them to a lower heading level!

This is incorrect … or am I missing something?

    Many Thanks Regards Mark

@adaptablewebsites We checked on the page in question and only see a single H1 in the following code:

    <h1 class="et_pb_module_header">Embedded Software Development Services</h1>

Yoast SEO analyzes the content of your post/page which does not include theme output, like headers, footers, H1 tags, and sidebars. If you haven’t added any additional H1 to your content but are receiving this warning, it can safely be ignored.

    Heh?

Your first point is the very point I advised you on and the whole purpose of the post?

    Second point …

Safely ignored? What is the point of this traffic light system then? I don’t want clients seeing warnings and me having to say “Don’t worry about it … I’ve had a word with the developers and they’ve assured me the plugin is churning out incorrect flags”

Are you not bothered? There’s one <h1> tag on the page. It’s that simple … your plugin thinks there is a different number … a number higher than one.

    What gives?

Many Thanks, Regards Mark (Web developer extraordinaire)

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for the message. The issue you’re seeing with the inaccurate H1 warning is because the content appears to have been added using a third-party page builder plugin.

Page builders can add H1 headings in the content area while WordPress themes usually add the H1 heading in theme templates. The traffic light system is fully-compatible with the default WordPress block editor or the Classic Editor.

We’ve definitely been concerned about this issue, so we’ve already provided a way for plugin and theme developers to make their output compatible with Yoast SEO mentioned in the developer documentation.

Also, Yoast developers continue to improve integrations with other plugins whenever possible, but please understand that Yoast SEO cannot change the code in other plugins or themes.

You can find more details and background about this issue in this guide: Plugin compatibility with [XYZ] visual page Builder.

    Hi Priscilla,

Nice of you to come back to me.

    FYI …
I use the Divi Theme … the most popular theme/ page builder on WordPress. Please relate to that … not other page builders in this thread. Thx

If what you say in your answer is correct then the opposite should be happening i.e a warning that no H1 headings are present … because your SEO plugin may possibly not be ‘looking’ at the content of the builder.

But that’s not the case is it? Indeed, it seems that your plugin can “see” more than one H1 heading .. and is setting a contradictory flag to your statement ….

Single title: H1s should only be used as your main title. Find all H1s in your text that aren’t your main title and change them to a lower heading level!

Can you advise me on this please. I’d be most grateful.

    Many Thanks

    Regards Mark

@adaptablewebsites Thanks for your reply. Can you please let us know what types of modules for Divi you are using on the page in question when this issue occurs?

Also, if you are able to provide screenshots of the content in the editor that would also be helpful, so that we can see whether we can replicate the issue with additional H1 headings being detected.

    @devnihil

The modules aren’t unusual at all … not that IMHO

Better idea … if you have a copy of Divi … Can I PM you the json file for the page?

You could then import that into a page and have the exact config.

    Possible?

    Many Thanks, Mark

    Hi,

While we are unable to accept PMs, as it turns out, we do know that currently Yoast is not compatible with every pagebuilder plugin or theme like Divi.

What you are experiencing is a false positive in the notification system when Divi is enabled. We say this as we can confirm your page only has one h1 tag.

We have an open request with our developers to improve the system when pagebuilders (like Divi) are in use.

Note, that we are working on improved compatibility with Divi. We are hopeful to have those improvements in place by the end of 2020.

In the meantime, we suggest signing up for our newsletter as that is where we will announce product changes and updates. You can sign-up for it here https://yoast.com/newsletter/.

    Hi,

So I have stripped the page down to just the Full Width Header module that contains the H1 heading and it is still flagging up the problem in the analysis:

Single title: H1s should only be used as your main title. Find all H1s in your text that aren’t your main title and change them to a lower heading level!

If I just add a text module with the same heading the problem is NOT flagged … so diagnostically the problem lies with the Full Width Section > Full Width Header module.

If you have a copy of Divi and create a page with just the Full Width Header module … and add to the title field … you should be able to reproduce the problem.

    Is that helpful?

    Thanks Mark

    Hi Mark,

We appreciate the time you’ve taken on this. Please know that we’re aware of this issue and it’s been reported.

We might not have mentioned it before, but we’d like to let you know that a false positive in the Yoast SEO analysis doesn’t have any impact on the SEO of your site. Search engines will be able to recognize your content.

    Hi

Just to add … the traffic light system also has an incorrect flag on this page:
    https://harmonicss.co.uk/embedded-software-engineering/

    for the following:

Keyphrase in introduction: Your keyphrase or its synonyms do not appear in the first paragraph.

The first paragraph contains the keyphrase.
The Divi module used is a text module … pretty simple really.

So, in its current standing the traffic light system has limited value for Divi users as it is often wrong. It forces one to wheelspin back and forth and waste time and to have litle confidence in the tool.

You would be wise to optimise the plugin for Divi … a behemoth theme .. with many articles stating “the perfect marriage”. I have 31 Divi websites all using Yoast … and yet am somewhat reluctant to upgrade … due to a level of confidence and finding things amiss.

    Many Thanks Mark

    Hi Mark!

We totally agree. As mentioned in one of the previous replies, our developers are working on improving Yoast’s compatibility with Divi. We are hopeful to have those improvements before the end of the year.

    Good luck with your sites!
