An Uploaded photo does not resize or rotate as it is supposed to

I have just sterted a new blog with a predetermined theme and I am now trying to customize it to my own style with different Photo’s Headers etc.
I uploaded a photo and it was changed to the right size and rotation however it was severely cropped so I deleted it and changed the photo to the right dimensions as stipulated but when I uploaded it again it remained the same and did not change size or rotation as it was supposed to. I tried again with other photo’s and nothing happens at all now.
