• At the end of my wits here, but there are a lot of errors popping up in the admin area of our network.

This error is displayed in Add New Plugin as well as Add New Theme:

An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with www.remarpro.com or this server’s configuration.

Also, we were on 4.0.1, and it did not tell us a new version was available. I manually update our network to 4.1. I believe it is not informing us about new versions of plugins.

Because it might be connected, on admin dashboards in our network, under WordPress News, it shows this error instead of the feed:

RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: Failed to connect to 66.155.40.250: Invalid argument

There was also an error when using the “Upgrade Network” link, something like “unable to connect (or communicate) with sites on your network”. I did not get that exact error.

Fortunately, with the exception of two plugins that need to make external API calls, this has not affected the front-end.

We are on Bluehost shared hosting with a WordPress 4.1 multi-network installation. Here are just some of the steps I have already taken to investigate this:

    • Pinged the primary blog/domain to verify that our IP was correct and configured correctly under Settings > Domain Mapping.
    • Network Deactivated all plugins, verifying them by site. Renaming the plugins folder temporarily. No change.
    • Checked that ports 80 and 443 are both open. They are.
    • Re-installed the WordPress 4.1 files in /wp-admin/, /wp-includes/, as well as the root directory files.
    • Commented out all lines in .htaccess that were not initially a part of our network installation.

I would love that someone actually has a viable answer that can get our WordPress talking with the outside world again.

Update: So, we were able to test and send information from our server to an external API, but ONLY outside of WordPress. That means this issue has occurred inside of WordPress itself.

Does anyone know what is going on, or how to fix it, or have any suggestions? This one is driving me crazy and trying to get to the bottom of it.
