    an invasive plugin
We just needed a cookie consent and after installation it started a setup scanning all files tempering with other data. started synchronising data with some external servers At end it says your cookie consent is not activated … we have deleted this. still need to check what it has done to our files…

@nicksgardenss sorry to hear this was your experience.

Yes, the plugin does do more than just add a cosmetic cookie banner, but that is because the privacy laws require that. The plugin will block cookies before consent (opt in), or after a revoke (opt out), and detect and describe used cookies. Doing anything less would be ‘fake news’.

I can imagine this feels invasive, but we didn’t create the legislation. We just try to offer tools to follow it.

The scanning you experienced is about some webpages from your site being requested to detect the cookies that are used. Then the plugin gets information on these cookies (the sync) from cookiedatabase.org, which is a free, open source initiative.

After deactivating, your site will be back to normal. Nothing has been done to your files.

I hope this explains what you experienced. If you need any help, or have questions, feel free to ask.
