    Today I am getting the following error trying to log into WordPress site – An error was encountered while trying to authenticate. Please try again.

    Disabling the Wordfence plugin allows me back in.

    I have tried disabling the Firewall and have also tried using the assistant but as soon as I enable the plugin again I get locked out.

    I cannot find what in the plugin is causing this. Please help

    Hi @mattadmin, thanks for getting in touch.

    Am I correct in assuming you have reCAPTCHA and/or 2FA enabled? The most common cause of this kind of issue would be a plugin/theme conflict causing our Javascript to fail or not load properly so a good place to start would be running a default theme on the site with no plugins other than Wordfence. If you’re able to authenticate under these conditions, re-enable your plugins and theme one-by-one until you find the source of the issue.

    If that approach doesn’t help, let me know and we’ll go into it a bit further.
