I may not be understanding the question, but there isn’t really a concept of a “folder”…?only parent/child relationships between pages/posts.

So, if you were to create an empty page to act as a parent for other pages, that page will be published and available.

When it comes to hierarchical pages and nesting, It’s no different than the built-in parent/child relationships, just provides a different interface for interacting with it (and a generated nav menu to match).

    Hope that answers your question…

    Hey Kyle,

I see that there isn’t the concept of a folder. Thanks.

With menus, you can create a parent menu item that does not link to anything. For example, “company”, with children links for “about”, “contact”, etc.

Is there any problem with publishing an empty page called “company” and publishing it? If the rest of the site never links to “company” is there any reason not to create it, so that I can keep all of my pages organized?

You can get the same functionality by adding a link in the Nested Pages interface (select the “Add Link” button at the top of the page or click the link icon under a row item). Just use a hash as the link. You’ll then be able to drag pages underneath that item.

    Hi Kyle,

That makes sense. But I am having a technical glitch. I do not a dialog box when I click on “Add a Link”. It clicks, but nothing happens.

I am using WP 4.1 with the latest version of the Virtue Premium theme, plus some other plugins (Woocommerce, etc.).

How do I debug this? I would like to the Add a Link.

    Thanks!

More info. When I click on Add a Link, up and down scrolling on my WP Pages screen stops working.

It sounds like there may be a Javascript and/or style conflict with another plugin. This has happened before, but it’s been isolated and I’ve had difficulty in getting details on what may be causing it.

Would you mind sending me the following info ([email protected])?:

    • A list of installed plugins (including any host-added plugins like WP Engine)
    • Operating System/Browser you’re using

If you’re familiar with the browser Javascript console, would you mind checking it for errors?

I did exactly this, thinking it would be easier than using a privately published page as a folder (containing element for other hidden pages). I didn’t like the way it worked, because I couldn’t add any notes to it (I use the body of the private page for notes – like why it was created or what it’s purpose is).

So, I decided to delete it. But I can’t. It’s “stuck’ in nested view. I want to delete it, but it won’t go away ??

I just created a test link (with an actual href) and now it’s stuck, too. How are we to delete these custom links?

Not only can I not delete them, but I can’t even set them to be “hidden.” Just try it, then refresh the page. Not hidden, are they? Not deleted are they? Maddening, isn’t it?

I followed the advice in the following thread and it worked for me. But I don’t think I should be messing around in the database like that on a regular basis….

Basically, open the ‘posts’ table, then search for the np-redirect. Actually, I added a title called “DELETE ME!” to the links, then sorted the table by modified date so they would come to the top of the list and I could be certain that I was deleting the proper entries.

Followup: I’ve decided I can no longer use pages or custom links as “folders” because they will appear in the page’s breadcrumb trail, regardless of publishing status.

I wish there was a way to group pages in Nested pages, without relying on the parent/child relationships imposed by WordPress.
