    Hi there,
I have set region to allow search in yoast. See here.
I did check that the site can be indexed under general/reading
There is also a robots.text which allows indexing

    Howeber the region still does have a <meta name=”robots” content=”noindex, nofollow”>
I also checked the advance settings on the individual page which says index yes (current default for regions) See here.

The noindex is Added by the yoast plugin.

When I switch your plugin off. Then the noindex disappears.
I cannot understand why yoast plugin keeps adding the noindex, when all is set to index…. I was considering to buy the premium product, but this looks like a complete mess. Please clarify.

    Thank you, Inge

    Hi @ingevdb

We’re sorry to hear that you’re encountering this issue regarding the meta robots tag having a ‘noindex’ tag.

Based on your screenshots, you have indeed configured it correctly with the Yoast SEO plugin (the setting in the advanced tab of the Yoast SEO meta box for that specific region page is correctly configured).

Would it be possible for you to perform a conflict check to ensure there aren’t any other conflicting plugins or themes that might be causing this?

The fastest way to rule out any conflict, is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Twenty.

Please test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin has a troubleshooting mode, which does not affect normal visitors to your site.

If you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts

With a default WP theme (such as TwentyTwenty) and only Yoast SEO v17.4 as the plugin enabled, could you then check that region page and see if it is then loading the correct ‘index’ meta robots tag in the page source? If so, we recommend enabling your plugins and preferred theme, one by one, until you are able to reproduce the issue.

    Hello Michael,

Thank you for your quick response.
    I cloned the site.
I switched off all plugins exept yoast 17.4 https://snipboard.io/37Qphz.jpg
I switched the theme to 2020
    The result is this: https://snipboard.io/Q1RHtI.jpg

When I switched of yoast the noindex disapears.
I’m afraid it’s your plugin which somehow is causing the problem ….

    Any suggestions?

    Kind Regards,
    Inge

    Hi @ingevdb

Upon checking your homepage, it looks like the meta robots tag is only appearing as:

    <meta name='robots' content='max-image-preview:large' />

We don’t see the ‘index’ or ‘noindex’ tag from your homepage. When you cloned your site, did you add any sort of custom code or modification, or was it a default setup? Would it be possible for you to try this with a fresh staging install?

This looks like it might need further investigation, which we are unable to do so over these public forums. You might want to consider Yoast SEO Premium so we can provide you with premium personal support.

Otherwise, we would like to refer you to our Metadata API if you would like to make any changes to the meta robots tags to further suit your needs – https://developer.yoast.com/customization/apis/metadata-api

Hello Michael, you are NOT seeing a noindex tag for the simple reason that I switched yoast off and desinstalled it. I will never touch it again. I did have before a Yoast SEO Premium account for another website, but it’s simply not worth it. You hardly ever come up with a solutions, without us, webdevelopers doing the hard work for you.

    I switched over to https://rankmath.com/

I wish you and your company all the best in the future.
