I have provided the screenshot: https://snipboard.io/OC54N0.jpg

My site is #3 when you use that keyword in the screenshot but the URL for desktop is showing up as /amp/ all of the sudden(it was not like this yesterday).

Granted, the page is new and Google bot might eventually fix this “error” itself within a week or so but I don’t want this become a constant problem.

*** I use the reader mode and use the legacy AMP theme in the AMP plugin settings.
*** I have turned off redirecting mobile users to AMP version as my theme is responsive and comes with it’s own mobile theme.

What could be causing the AMP version of the post to be indexed instead of the NON AMP?

The canonical url seems to be fine. I am a bit lost to why this would happen, my only guess is that it is temporarily but still, any input or suggestion would great be appreciated.

  • Thanks for reaching out. While I’m not aware of search engines serving AMP URLs on from desktop I do encounter the same experience you’re reporting from testing on my device, although only one particular URL from the different pages and posts I’ve checked.

While you may be correct that it could be a temporarily issue can you use the URL inspection tool so this particular URL get’s re-indexed?

In addition feel free to share your Site Health information using our escalations form. Maybe we can identify a plugin or theme that has redirects or other conflicting functionality.

Hey James, thanks for your reply.

I have used the inspection tool and I have requested a re-index query.

I have also submitted an escalated ticket using the form you gave me, thanks a lot!

Thanks for sharing. While not familiar with all plugins you have active nothing stands out. While search engines use their own algorithms to determine the most optimum version of a site to be served I’m not aware of any other examples of AMP URLs being served on desktop, so I suspect this will be result.

While you’re awaiting your site to be re-indexed you have the option to disable AMP on that particular URL using the sidebar settings add by the AMP plugin.

I can keep this support topic open while checking back with you in a few days if you wish.

Yes please do that, keep this thread alive and I will update if it is fixed, I will do some more testing this side by creating new posts in that particular category and see if something strange is happening.

@jamesosborne Hey, it seems Google did fix the “error” by itself. I have created a new post in the same category to see if it’s a constant issue/bug, once the new post is indexed in the next day or so, I will let you know if this happens again.

Thanks again for your time and patience and keep up the good work!

Good to know, thanks for the update. And yes, please do let us know if this occurs once more.

I noticed also you’re using a Disqus commenting system on your website. Providing you’re using the official Disqus plugin you can ensure this works on AMP URLs by using the Disqus AMP extension. And with your content mostly static blog posts you may considering using AMP in transitional or even standard mode, as opposed to the legacy reader mode. If you’re having trouble with any theme incompatibilities let us know.
