Are you referring to the 1.5.4 release? It’s mostly a bugfix release that addresses a bunch of small issues, so it’s pretty safe to update. You can see the full list of changes here: https://github.com/ampproject/amp-wp/releases/tag/1.5.4

This doesn’t really affect your ranking or AMP validation. If anything, we would strive to make the plugin better in a way that you see less validation errors.

    Hi,
Thanks @swissspidy for your quick reply.Yes there is an update to 1.5.4 version. As we are using multiple custom post type and already near about 10k validated AMP pages so that is my concern.

Anyway your plugin is the best AMP plugins that I am using. Excellent support from your team also.
    Thanks

What is the easiest way to update the plugins in the most efficient way?
If we face any issue how can we revert easily?

That’s a great question, albeit not really one that is specific to the AMP plugin.

As with any update (theme, plugin, or WordPress core itself), it is recommended to run these first on a staging environment. Once you are comfortable with the update working as intended, you can apply the change on the production site. Of course, don’t forget to take backups.

Many people and hosting providers also provide options to easily roll back updates using their control panels. Alternatively, you could try plugins like WP Rollback that provide similar functionality.

    Hi @swissspidy,
I have seen you have released 1.5.5 https://github.com/ampproject/amp-wp/releases
If I Update it can I see any performance update?
If I update directly in live have there any issue?
    Thanks

    Hi there,

No need to ping me for every new plugin update ??

As a rule of thumb, smaller version bumps (e.g. 1.5.4 to 1.5.5) are usually just bug fixes, and a big version bump (e.g. 1.5.5 to 2.0.0) means lots of bigger new improvements.

I recommend you to read the changelog whenever there’s a new version of any software to see what kind of changes there are.

If you read the changelog of the 1.5.5 release, you can see a line that says “fixes a bottleneck that can increase performance generating AMP pages by 3x”. So yes, this update can improve performance on your site.

As with any update (theme, plugin, or WordPress core itself), it is recommended to run these first on a staging environment. Once you are comfortable with the update working as intended, you can apply the change on the production site. Of course, don’t forget to take backups.
