    Hi dear team,
at the moment I have transitional mode aktivated. The theme is not completely amp ready. So I plan to switch to reader mode. However, is the reader mode also suggested with websites that are interactive like in a shop? Can the shop then be used in reader mode? Or what do you suggest?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • @spelly2 thanks for your inquiry.

In general, you can enable AMP directly from the editor’s document panel on pages and posts. For an Ecommerce store, I would say you want to ensure that the shop, cart, checkout pages work well with AMP.

If the shop page (or any other page/ post on the site) is interactive and relies on custom JS to work, just know that the AMP plugin automatically removes this markup so the page is valid AMP. The AMP specification does not allow custom JS.

One way to check if a page will work well with AMP is to disable JS in the browser. If it does not work well, it’s best to keep AMP disabled on the page.

Thank you very much for your answer. ??
If AMP just doesn’t work on different product pages (by deactivating amp) the GSC (Google Search Console) will react and tell me to make it amp compatible. I hardly try to avoid to get errors in the GSC. So the whole shop has to work with amp.
And if I deactivate javascript, the shop doesn’t work properly. What can I do now?

It’s really down to personal preference. In Search Console adding AMP is a recommendation, not a requirement. Understood if you like to follow all such suggestions.

If your theme and current WooCommerce setup have JavaScript heave features such as an image slideshow feature on hover this won’t work in AMP. If you’re ok for this and other possible features not working as expected in AMP URLs then you can test out the various modes with AMP active for all templates, including WooCommerce.

Note also you canonical site (non AMP) won’t change, with all features working as expected.
