Hello we are having an isssue where prior to 10/23 we had over 300 amp pages working and being indexed we have since gone down to 40 we asked the amp for wp plugin devs for help and they said that the latest version of yoast will help the issue.

Wanted to check and see if this was true.

Below is a link to the issue we are seeing alternate page with proper canonical tag being excluded yoast

  • Hello @davidw09 ,

We are sorry to hear that your indexed amp pages have gone down. Our latest release (15.2.1) contained a fix but it was for a bug where AMP and W3C validation would break because Twitter meta tags would contain ‘value’ attributes instead of ‘content’ attributes. You can read more about it here.

On the screenshot shown, you have a couple of URLs that are marked as Alternate page with Proper Canonical Tag which is expected on e-commerce sites that have URLs with filter parameters. You can read more about it here.

So is google just not allowing product pages to be read as amp pages?

    Hi,

For the links you’ve included in your screenshot, those are AMP product pages that have a filter parameter. According to Google’s documentation for “alternate page with proper canonical tag” – this page is a duplicate of a page that Google recognizes as canonical. This page correctly points to the canonical page, so there is nothing for you to do.

It doesn’t mean that the AMP version of a product page isn’t being read or indexed. As long as your implementation of the desktop version and AMP version are correct (which by having the Yoast SEO for WordPress plugin & AMP for WP plugin would do), you can expect for it to show. Perhaps it was part of the issue that was fixed in 15.2.1 for the aforementioned value attributes instead of the content attributes for the Enhanced Slack sharing feature.
