I have the AMP plugin on the main site, as a requirement of the mobile theme (Newspaper). It works without problem.

I also link to a sub-domain (for a shop, hosted with the same provider, using a different theme) and I would like to instal an AMP plugin there too. However this results in high CPU minutes in excess of what my shared hosting allows for. Is there a fundamental reason why the plugin could not be installed on a sub-domain too?

    Hello @donmcleman

there could be many factors affecting your site’s performance or CPU usages.

I will recommend enabling object caching and Page caching if you don’t have one enabled already.

Also, can you please share some insights on how you determined it was the AMP plugin causing high CPU usages?

EDIT: Addtionally Please share your site health information using this form so we can investigate it further.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me.

First of all how I determined it was the AMP plugin – that was clear, just before and after switching it on and off on the sub-domain. I’ve now restored a back-up from the day before I installed the plugin. (I’m not suggesting there’s a problem with the plugin, I would definitely recommend it for the speed increase.)

I was hoping for a straightforward answer like ‘always enable xyz if you use AMP on a sub-domain’. It looks like I will have to debug my setup.

I do have a comprehensive cacheing plugin (SG Optimiser).

I will add the site health info shortly.

    Hello @donmcleman

I don’t see you are using any heavy plugins except All in One security, also SG Optimizer is not AMP compatible, so I will recommend deactivating it or Suppress it using the plugin Suppression feature from AMP plugin.

I will recommend testing what is causing the issue by activating plugins one by one or using Health and Troubleshooting plugin, also check query monitor and or new relic or similar tools to check performance bottlenecks.

additionally, please do check our plugin listing to find alternative and compatible plugin.

Thank you, the big takeaway for me is that SG Optimizer is not AMP compatible – that’s going to be painful to deal with.

    Thanks for having a look.

Thank you, Bethany, I’ll do some more tests to see what I can come up with.
