  • @mbeerli thanks for your inquiry!

Yes, custom JavaScript is not allowed on AMP pages, so the plugin will automatically remove it in order for the page to be valid AMP. (Read more about the AMP Specification and how the WordPress plugin works)

When you check the AMP > Validated URLs admin page from the WordPress Dashboard, do you see your URL and the MetaSlider plugin listed for placing invalid markup on the page?

What would be the correct way to handle this?

    You have some options:

    1) You can inquire with the authors of the MetaSlider plugin if they would consider providing compatibility with AMP.

    2) You can use an AMP-compatible slider to implement on the site. For example, Jetpack’s Slideshow block is compatible with AMP. Feel free to also browse our ecosystem page for compatible themes and plugins.

    3) You can choose to “Keep” the markup (JavaScript) on the URL, but it will no longer be served as an AMP page.

@mbeerli I would also like to mention there are AMP Settings available for the default Gallery Block where you can turn on a “carousel” for the gallery:
