amend htaccess

Hi there,
my server is not compatible for aiowp security and firewall to automatically write to the htaccess file.

I need to amend the htaccess file to blacklist ip addresses that are trying to hack my site. Are there any instructions anywhere on how to edit the file manually for the automatic functions that the plugin performs.
