• Hi,
I received several emails from Amazon regarding locals that I do not use and therefore am not registered with – I use the Amazon Link widget in a couple of sites and have registered with several countries as an affiliate and included my associate id’s in the relevant fields but the ones I am not registered with are left blank which has been the case for at least a couple of years – apparently Amazon have change their API criteria or something in the latest plugin update has meant that Amazon Link is showing countries I am not registered to and do not want to affiliate with – the emails state that API access will be revoked – this needs addressing so that countries we do not enter associate Id’s for do not trigger an api usage requirement.

The emails I received are for Japan, Mexico, Brazil, China, India and the email states:

    Dear Amazon Associate,

We have an important update regarding the Amazon Product Advertising API (“PA API”). You are accessing PA API in a marketplace outside of where you are a registered Amazon Associate. In order to ensure your PA API access continues without interruption, your PA API account will need to be linked to a valid Amazon Associates account.

How can I sign up as an Amazon Associate for another country?
Please refer here to sign-up for the Amazon Associates Program (https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSECommerceService/latest/DG/becomingAssociate.html).

I already have an Amazon Associates account but under a different email address. How can I link my existing Amazon Associates and PA API accounts?
If you already have an active Amazon Associates account, please add the email address used for creating the PA API account as a primary email to your existing Amazon Associates account. Once the email address is added successfully, you will be able to continue accessing the PA API. For more help on changing the primary owners, please refer here for detailed instructions (https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/help/node/topic/202049760).

If you have Amazon Associate accounts in multiple marketplaces, please be sure to add the email address used for creating the PA API account as a primary email to all of the existing Amazon Associates accounts.

I already have an Amazon Associates account and a PA API account. How do I verify that they are linked?
Verify that the email address used for creating a PA API account is updated as your primary email address in your Amazon Associates account.

I already have an Amazon Associates account linked to a PA API account. How do I verify that there will not be any impact?
First, verify the valid status of your Amazon Associates account by logging into Associates Central. Or, verify that the email address used for creating a PA API account is updated as your primary address in your Amazon Associates account.

I already have an Amazon Associates account but I do not want to change the primary owner. How do I maintain PA API access without changing primary ownership?
If you already have an active Amazon Associates account and do not want to change primary owner, you can sign-up for PA API from your existing associate account. Once you sign up for PA API, you can create new credentials to access the PA API. For more information, please refer here to sign-up for the PA API (https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSECommerceService/latest/DG/becomingDev.html).

When do I need to take action?
You need to ensure that you have created a valid Amazon Associates account linked to a PA API account before October 6, 2017.

What is the impact if I do not take action before October 6, 2017?
Your access to the PA API will be revoked and you will receive an error code AWS.InvalidAssociate and error message “Your (access key) is not registered as an Amazon Associate. Please register as an Amazon Associates at (affiliate program link)” in response to a PA API request.

    Sincerely,
    The Amazon Associates Team

    Hi,

I will update the plugin to address this, not sure exactly how yet though…

I read the Amazon email to mean that API request to Brazil, India, Japan, etc. will start to fail, rather than all requests to the API.

Curiously I have only had one email – for the Brazilian affiliate site, with whom I do have a valid affiliate account, its even got a decent amount of earnings.

    Thanks Paul,
The way I read it is that the API will fail or be refused completely which is why so concerned. I received emails for each country that I am not registered as an affiliate for and which there are no affiliate ID’s entered into the Amazon Link plugin fields.

I have not had warnings emails for the countries I am affiliated to that include valid ID’s in the plugin – the email indicates that the API ID’s must match the affiliate email address so guessing that can’t even use your ID’s?

I am considering ditching all but UK and USA as the other countries don’t earn anything and had another email stating that Amazon are changing their requirements and affiliates must start earning within 6 months.
