Amateur developer with very poor support
-
Trust me – avoid. Go with someone from a bigger outfit with better support. I’m a WordPress veteran and have tested and used many theme and plugins over my ten years of web building – there are the big ones that always stay at the top of the pack (Astra, GeoDirectory, Yoast, Ninja etc) and then there are the two-bit outfits like Themegrill. When I first got the paid ColorMag Pro many moons ago I wasn’t as knowledgeable and regret this hugely now that’s it’s a bigger deal for me to change theme. Unlike the big names, ColorMag is run by one person and rarely issues updates so if a feature is glitching or missing, you’ll have to put up with it for years. In June 2023 he (Themegrill) recently launched a huge update (ColorMag 4) with very risky changes of class that then clashed with my child theme and other puglins. I then found out how bad the support was – he’ll respond to an email after a couple of days at the very soonest (that’s long if your site is looking a mess) only to deny the issue, make an excuse or say he’s overwhelmed with other tickets. It’s been two months and many aspects of my theme are still broken. I now believe he has no intention of supporting my tickets maybe because he doesn’t know how to fix things. My traffic has nose-dived over the last couple of months along with advertising revenue but there is no recourse for compensation with such a small developer. Even if you’re looking for a free plugin, choose one from a more established developer or go for Newsmag or The Issue. There is a reason ColorMag doesn’t appear in the roundups for best magazine themes. This is very time I’ve ever written a negative review – I don’t do this lightly but it’s been hugely difficult for a tiny social enterprise like ours to have to suddenly deal with all these site problems and have no support or recourse.
