• I currently have a static site hosted by Go Daddy. They told me that unless I wanted to take down my current site, I need to build my new site on WordPress, then upload it and replace my old site with the new one. I cannot take down my current site. I need to build a new one and simply replace it when I’m ready to go live.

How, then do I begin my new WordPress site?

  • Have they given you a required completion date, and will they let you do that right there in a sub-folder?

Can I ask why GoDaddy is insisting your site be built on WordPress? If it is your site, surely you can build it how you like? Of course, WordPress is a great way to go, but what about people that use Joomla, Drupal, static sites and the many other ways of building a site?

I have never heard of a hosting provider insisting on sites being built with WordPress, and as I am considering moving some sites to GoDaddy, this is of great interest to me – NOT all the sites I want to move are based on WordPress (yet).

If you have the capability to build a new WordPress site in a local development site, you can do that and when it is ready you can replace your existing site on Go Daddy by migrating it over.

Set up a local environment on your computer.
Install WAMP or XAMMP on your computer.

    And follow these directions

If you do build a local version of your site please remember most of your links won’t work straight away due to the database. So to make them work, Once you have transferred your database and files be sure to grab this script and follower the instruction it will help you fix the links.

I downloaded it, but can’t find it. I want to uninstall it but can’t find it in control panel. What is this monstrosity and how do I get rid of it? Do I need to format my hard drive? Is this thing full of viruses? Is WordPress just one big virus? Help.

@tstucker – please start your own thread – your question is not the same. You can do so here:
