Alternative to insert wordpress image fields?

I’ve used this plugin for sometime and always liked it as it worked great.

But with the recent WP upgrades, I’ve found that this plugin is becoming obsolete without the needed upgrades to the plugin itself.

For instance, on a “New Post” page, I find numerous code errors on the page such as “Warning: Missing argument 2 for wpdb::prepare(), called in …wp-content/plugins/auto-image-field/auto-image-field.php on line 72 and defined in …/wp-includes/wp-db.php on line 990”

So two questions:

1) Is there a planned upgrade to the plugin to get it to work properly?

2) Does anyone know of an alternative that would allow for easy insertion of custom images by field such as “homepage”, “thumbnail”, “right column”, etc…similar to this plugin but updated for 2013?
