• With changes in the offing for the Google Maps Platform – now requiring a credit card even for free usage – we have decided that this is the last straw with Google and have started to migrate our site ( https://columbiavalley.com ) to OSM maps.

I’m wondering if you have any plans to offer an alternative to Google as a map provider?

We’ve written a plugin to handle the change on the main part of our site, but for plugins that generate Google maps we need to work with the plugin developers to hopefully get an alternative implemented.

If this is something that you are contemplating, i’d be happy to give you a copy of our plugin as an example of working code that might make a good starting point.

You’re welcome to do as you wish with it. I put the file here –

    https://columbiavalley.com/media/public/mymaps-0.0.1.zip

Note that it is simply a shortcode, with no documentation other than the code itself.

I’m contemplating making a public version, as i realize that there are lots of people who only need a simple map for a contact form or whatever and won’t want to give Google their credit card number just for that. But i haven’t yet committed to this, as it’s a fair bit of work and long-term responsibility.

If you need to reach me, just email 2016(at)rosling.ca

    Hi
In the past you have developped a plugin that allows Code Igniter (CI) to be integrated with WordPress.

I have a project and the developpers who are working on it know quite good CI which is in term of development much better.

    1. Could you gibe some advices to the team?
    2. Could you update your plugin so that our development integrates smoothly with WordPress?

PS: I only see @wildmice, not the full email address.
    Thanks,
    Dominique

    Hi Dominique,

That CodeIgniter plugin is very ancient and would not likely be useful for anything nowadays.

You may want to look into the WordPress API which could be called from CI to perform many WP functions. That would be the route that i’d take now.

    Hope this helps ??
