• I’d like to start using WordPress for my website, but I have a problem…
my URLs take the form /2004/august/ – in other words, the month is text, not numeric. Is there any way I can use WordPress with my old URLs? If not, would it be possible to sneakily insert a couple of lines of php somewhere in the code to allow this? Or would that be entering a world of pain for a non-programmer like myself?
A thought: since the date format uses the php date() function, wouldn’t it be nice if you could use that to configure the permalink structure too… ?

  • In the administration screen, click “options” along the top, then “permalinks” (this assumes you have mod-rewrite enabled on your weblog).

Sorry – I don’t quite see how that helps me. The problem is that the permalinks options (on the page you’re referring to) only allow you to use numbers for dates. For example, %monthnum% will give you the month from 01 (January) to 12 (December). Which allows you to have URLs like /2004/08/. But my (already existing) site has URLs that are formatted as /2004/august/ – what I wanted to know was if there was a way to use text strings (“august”, “march”) for months instead of numbers.
