I just tried that, but my galleries are specific to my theme so once switched over to twentyfourteen there is nothing for me to check. I hadn’t realised that before, I guess it is a theme issue then?

That is correct. This is my website.
The alt text is there on the three images on the home page. But there is none for any of the images on my gallery.

I’m not sure what you mean, they have the alt text, for example:

I think it sounds like a theme issue to me especially if your galleries are a function of the theme. Tripod, right?

It’s also a commercial product and you might be better raising a support question with the theme dev.

Andrew, are those taken from my home page? If so, those ones do work. But if you then go to the portfolio page where the bulk of my images are, there is no alt text. Just taking one image as an example.

That is correct Martcol, I have taken this up with the themes support but yet to get a reply. When I first raised this question here I had not worked out that it was likely a theme related issue.

Yes that was taken from one of the 3 images on the Home page (that was linked in the prior post). When I go to your portfolio page I see the theme issue.
