    Dear all,
I have a problem with the alt text of an image. This alt text is shown as image title in the Fancybox, but only when being opened as a single image from the media gallery.
When I put the identical image into a gallery and open it from there in a Fancybox, it appears without the title …

    Example:
single image opens with alt text:
    https://fluegge.net/unterwegs/770/

the same image in a gallery opens on click without alt text:
    https://fluegge.net/unterwegs/miami/

I tried to find a solution in the FAQs and in other topics but wasn’t successful.

Thanks for your help in advance and sorry for my English, I am not a native speaker.
    Best, Michael

  • Hi Michael, do not worry about your English. A (very) large part of the WordPress community is not native speaking but we all do our best to understand each other ??

I’ll try to explain what is happening on your site:

When you insert a single image, WordPress will use the Alt text as the attribute alt="..." to the image embed tag. This attribute is then used by the light box script a the title under the image. But looking at the gallery source code, I see no alt attributes.

FancyBox needs either an alt attribute on the thumbnail image tag or a title attribute title="..." on the link tag, to be able to show a title. It appears that the gallery plugin you are using, Photoblocks, does not add either of these attributes.

Do you know if the gallery plugin as an option to enable the title attribute? If not, it will not be possible to show the title in FancyBox.

Alternatively, you could try another gallery plugin. Normally, Jetpack’s Gallery module should work fine.

Hi, RavanH, thanks for the quick response. I added some text for title, description etc but the Fancy Lightbox does not show it. But it seems to be an issue with Photoblocks, because I found other topics regarding this problem in Photoblocks but with other Lightboxes.
Thanks for your support, I really appreciate it ??

Like I said, if the gallery plugin does not have an option to add the required title attribute, then you might want to consider switching to another gallery plugin… Have you asked support on the PhotoBlocks Grid Gallery forum?

I see what you mean, and now I am still investigating on plugins, but we can close this topic for now.
    Thanks again for help.
