    Hi,

I found several shortcomings in Email Subscribers which are not good but which I can work around (I may send you a list of these later) but now I have a problem that is really serious.

    Scenario:

    1. I create two new lists, called Test-1 and Test-2.
    2. In Test-1 I create two contacts, say User-a and User-b.
    3. I check on the Audience page: There are 2 contacts, User-a and User-b, both assigned to List-1. All right!
    4. I create an import file with two users: User-b and User-c
    5. I import that file and for “Select List” I specify List-2

You would expect that there are now three users:

    • User-a, assigned to List-1
    • User-b, assigned to List-1 and List-2
    • User-c, assigned to List-2

… but that is not the case! There are indeed three users, but User-B has not been assigned to List-2.

This corresponds with the ES message after the import action: “Total 1 contacts have been imported successfully! 1 contact(s) are already exists.”

Of course this is not a problem for these three contacts, but ES should allow you to use a number of lists with each a few hundred contacts and then it is a serious problem that you cannot import contacts for a list if they are already present in another list.

For me this is a ‘show-stopper’, so I hope you will be able to do something about this.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Hello,

You can use the Add to list option to add existing contacts to a list of your choice.

    Hello @vaksupport,

Yes, I knew that. But that does not help.

Real life example(!): I import a file with 195 contacts. I get a message that 76 contacts have not been imported because they were already present. Now I have check for all contacts in the import file which ones were already present and, if so, I have to assign them manually to the new list.

This is not how it should work, right?

    Hello @henk-barreveld,

I agree! But we see this as rarest scenario as most users import contacts from external sources at the very beginning and they have an option to choose a list while importing contacts so they can come up with separate files for each list.

Also, we do have a feature that allows visitors to choose one or more lists of their choice when they subscribe through the form.

    Hello @vaksupport,

Thank you for your quick reply and your understanding.

I am afraid that I will have to look for something else then. As you write, I need to import contacts from external sources at the very beginning and I do have a separate file for each list.

However, separate files for each list does not mean separate contacts in each file. My problem is that there is a serious overlap in the contacts present in those files.

And a problem is that this will not only happen at the beginning but probably also later on.

    Hello @henk-barreveld,

    Thank you for your feedback.

I have already raised a feature request and asked our developers to look for a possibility to make this happen. We’ll update the changelog as soon as we implement it.

Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to get back to us.

    Hello @vaksupport,

    Wonderful, thank you.

I hope your developers will realize that this can be important for users. Also, I think it would be a much more intuitive behaviour of your software; I would never have guessed that importing a contact to a list does not work if the user is already present but assigned to a different list.

Actually, there are more things, related to this, that are not as you would expect in this architecture with multiple contacts, multiple lists and multiple one-to-many and many-to-one relations between the two. For example, the Bulk Actions on the Audience page should include “Remove from List”; as a counter-part of the already present “Add to List”. The same for the Workflow actions.

    Oh well, you will understand…

Thanks so far! I am happily looking forward to the improvements.
