When selecting option 2 Replace the file, use new file name and update all links I’m getting the following message:
‘In specificied directory there is already a file with the same name. Can’t replace.’

Apparently an old version of the file may be cached. Have you seen this before? How to get around it?

    thanks,
    Kurt

    Hi, Kurt,

Probably your file system contains an image with that name even if it doesn’t appear on your Media Library.

    Could you please:

    1. Tell me what’s the old image filename?
    2. Tell me what’s the new image filename?
    3. Install a file manager plugin, go to the path where the image is located, and send me a screenshot that shows if the image is located there?
    4. Send us a screenshot of the error message?

    Thank you,

thanks for the feedback. I don’t think all of these steps will be helpful.
    Easy explanation is like this.
image1 (in file system but not in Media Library because it was deleted)
    image1-v2 (with new name)
image1 (want to go back to original name but using option 1 doesn’t work)

I’ll try clearing server cache. I don’t know why image removed from Media library would still be accessible and prevent using that name. But I know sometimes WordPress can be quirky like that.

The error message I already sent you – exact message “In specificied directory there is already a file with the same name. Can’t replace.”

    Hi @kurtgarrison,

On WordPress, an image must be deleted from the Media Library so WordPress deleted all files associated with the image. If, for some reason, it is deleted in an unconventional method, like straight from the file system, then one may end up with files in the file systems but not in the Media Library (like your situation).

Therefore it is normal that Enable Media Replace shows a message like that, because there is actually a file with the same name in the file system.

Let me know if you have any question.

    Best,
