• So I have been messing around with my first theme for public release. I have called it the “Friendly Skeleton Theme”.

I had a few goals in mind for this theme:

    Valid HTML and CSS
    “SEO Optimized”
-Each page has its own H1 tag for title
-The Middle “Content Area” actually shows up first in code
    Simple, fluid design
    Easy to edit
    Bare bones / minimalist theme
    3 columns
    2 widget ready sidebars

There are a few things to finish with it (a few more tweaks to the code to validate it, plus ordering and commenting the CSS for easy editing) but it is almost there!

I would appreciate any comments and suggestions. What do you think? This is my first WordPress theme made from scratch so please go easy on me!

    Friendly Skeleton Theme

    Thanks!

  • It’s really a good idea. However, by now, it looks boring. You should definitely offer different css-skins (3+) for it.

    Thanks for the reply.

The point of this theme is for easy customization. I am offering it free for distribution, editing and even for people to eventually use for their own custom and premium themes.

I like the skins idea. I might work on a few just to show the power of the theme with just using CSS.

I will eventually use this theme as a skeleton for other themes I will be releasing in the future.

I have been thinking about adding a “theme switcher” to this theme but have decided against it.

I am very hesitant to add more to the functions.php and to add multiple css files to the theme. This goes against my original concept which is to have a very bare bones template for “themeing”.

I am going to play around with the concept for another theme. Thanks for the idea!

nice minimal design. more colors would make it better, shades of red will do good on this theme. And also if there was some more space for side columns would be nice it looks small n packed on either side.

It is fairly simple. I would suggest removing the underlines from the links to give it a more professional and elegant look.

    Thanks for the comments.

    I have completed the following:

-Deleted the border around the menu
    -Widened the sidebars
-Added padding to the sidebar lists

    What do you all think?
