Allowing registered users to add a listing via maps

    Hello, I am the site owner but I have somebody building the site. So I have what might be a non-technical question. This is a ratings a review website much like Yelp! or Tripadvisor. My specific request to the site builder is I want registered users to be able to populate and grow the database by being allowed to add “listings” and places and then proceed and review the listing and the site will capture that information and add grow the database. It appears to me that this Google Maps plugin will allow me to do that but the site designer is telling me it is not possible. Let me describe below what I want and what my site designer is telling me can be done which I disagree with.

    As noted above this is a ratings and review website. Registered users will log in and rate and review a host of things, restaurants, schools, hotels et al.

    What I want:
    Registered user logs in
    Clicks “write a review”
    selects state
    selects category
    Important: USER ADDS ADD IN THE NAME AND ADDRESS OF THE LISTING THEY WANT TO REVIEW
    ADDRESS IS ADDED IN VIA GOOGLE MAPS PLUGIN
    User rates the listing
    User adds a review to the listing
    User submits the listing
    The listing including google map location is captured and added to the site database
    The listing now becomes searchable by other users and the public.

    What he says:

    Important: USER SELECTS A NAME OF THE LISTING ALREADY PREVIOUSLY ADDED TO THE DATABASE BY THE ADMIN THEY WANT TO REVIEW

    The listing now becomes searchable by other users and the public.

    So we have a huge fundamental difference, I do not have the ability to add in all the listings to the site! So I want my registered users to grow the database and then review, he tells me that only the ADMIN can have access to add listings and grow the database. this defeats the purpose of a user driven review website I have told him that it seems with Google maps plugin, we can allow ANYONE to add to the database considering that Google maps has almost all addresses already available. Users can type in and add locations of any institution they have been to, and then rate and review. He says only Admins can do this.

    I need to clarify this so that we can move forward to finish building the site or i need to consider other options.

    Hi there
    Thank you for your detailed post.

    The plugin cannot do what you need out the box and will require extensive customisation in order to achieve this. I don’t know of any plugin that can actually do what you need out the box. We do have a “Gold” add-on that works with the “Pro add-on” but we will need to customise it to get it exactly the way you want it to work with the process flow you mentioned above.
