So I just ran my first backup to google drive with your plugin. It started at 8:44AM this morning and just finished at about 2:15PM and my site is under 200MB.

About 15 minutes before the backup was done, I got an email from my web host, SiteGround saying:

We would like to inform you that your account has reached the allowed daily usage of 20000 CPU seconds per account. Please note that once you hit 150% of the allowed daily CPU seconds, your web service will be limited for the calendar day. The web service limit means you may have problems accessing your website.

Can you advise me on this please? I’m sure it was because of this plugin, and I told SiteGround that it shouldn’t happen again because of the incremental backup after the first one. However, why does the first backup take so much time and CPU power? When I was using another popular plugin, I didn’t run into this issue with the web host.

Another question unrelated to the first one:
Does the backup include deleted files? For example, if I delete a plugin, does that get reflected in the backup, i.e. files get deleted on the cloud backup?

Thank you for bringing this to our notice. It looks like we have had another user reporting an issue on SiteGround. We haven’t seen such a spike on other servers. I will pass on this information to the developer. Once he analyzes the CPU usage of WPTC on a SiteGround server, I will give you an update.
As for deleted files, if you delete the plugin from the WordPress site, it will get deleted from your file system but it will remain on the Cloud.

Ok good, so it’s not just me. Yes, siteground is a popular host, so it would be good not to have any trouble with them.

Regarding deleted files, why would you choose to have deleted files remain on the cloud? Is that indefinite, or do they eventually get deleted?

Also, I set my daily backup to go at 3AM, but this morning when I logged in, the last backup was the last one I manually did yesterday afternoon. Shouldn’t there have been one last night?

You’re right Mike, its not just you. We have a couple of users who have mentioned similar CPU usage spikes with SiteGround. However, the plugin is working really well on all other hosts and we don’t see anyone having issues.

At the moment, my development team is recreating the scenario on a test environment and also checking into the backup missing issue. As per your setup, there should have been one. I don’t want to get ahead of myself before I hear from the dev team so I’ll keep you posted with an update at the earliest!

It will be a good idea to create a ticket in our system so that we can test this on our end as well and determine if the problem is related to the actual plugin or if there is something else that can be done.

If you already have a ticket created you can pass us the ticket ID so that we can investigate this further for you.

I haven’t created a ticket, and there’s not really much I can do at this point until WPTC investigates. I can’t use the plugin anymore because somehow my info got erased from the plugin itself. They know about this and are looking into it. Thank you for replying here. I appreciate the support.

If that was the version that came out last week or so, then it’s still not working, I took a screenshot of the CPU seconds that maxed out again. I was communicating over email with Vinodh. Last he said was let me check this and get back to you, and that was 4 days ago so I’m just waiting.

    Hey Mike,

Sorry about the miscommunication on that one. I double checked with the development team and they have confirmed that it would be fixed on v1.7.3. My bad.

    (@mdc2957)

So I should disregard the email from Vinodh that said it was fixed?
Can you let me know when 1.7.3 is released so I can try again?

    Hey Mike,

Yes, you can disregard that email. You can expect v1.7.3 to be out probably by the end of this week. We are aiming at 1st/2nd of March.

Tauseef, thank you for the update. I looked on your site but didn’t see an email newsletter sign up. How can I be notified when the new version is released so I can give it a try?

    Hey Mike,

We don’t have a newsletter subscription, I have your email id and I’ll notify you once we launch the update for v1.7.3 ??

I installed the new version and ran the backup, took a long time, but I got the success email some hours later. However, I did look at my cpanel and I still see that the CPU time usage was exceeded in cPanel for my web hosting. Not sure if this matters or not, but just wanted to let you know

    Hey Mike,

We have redesigned the entire process of showing the progress bar. In the earlier releases, the progress bar was utilizing a higher CPU percentage. With this release, we could see a great reduction on the CPU usage.

Can you please check the CPU usage peak on your site?
Go to the Cpanel provided by your host -> AWStats -> select your domain -> go to topic Pages-URL -> then check here what is the top resource utilizing page, this will be on top. Here you can get more details as to which URL has been pinged a lot!

    Cheers!
