• Hi,

Our client requires their distributors who want access to certain product info and promotions to request a login to a protected portion of their site. The distributors don’t have to pay, but they can’t self-register. They email a request, and then the client inputs their info into the WordPress User->Add New screen.

The client picks a custom s2Member role, Distributor, the username and the email, and WordPress/s2member sends that person an activation email.

When they click on the activation link, it shows them their username and an auto-generated password.

We would like these new users to be able to enter their own passwords, but even though we followed the advice on this old s2 forum thread:
Dashboard -? s2Member? -? General Options -? Registration/Profile Fields -? Allow Custom Passwords during Registration
    from
    https://www.s2member.com/forums/topic/creating-passwords/

the activation link is still only showing them an auto-generated password.

    Please help.

WordPress doesn’t have activation links, neither does s2Member add them. BuddyPress adds them, though.

When you create the user, WordPress sends him the New User email, which includes his username and password. s2Member adds an editor to customize it. WP Admin -> s2Member -> General -> Email Configuration -> New User

Then let them register the account instead. You can have your client give them the access afterwards. This article may give you some ideas: https://www.s2member.com/kb/free-user-review-approval-process/

Like I said, the activation link is not something that comes with WP or s2, so I’d check with the plugin that added that to see how you could achieve the password customization part.

    I hope that helps. ??

    Thanks for the reply, Cristian.

I think the activation email must be a feature of Multisite, when a single site admin adds a user through that site’s admin CP. (Based on this article: https://premium.wpmudev.org/manuals/wpmu-manual-2/creating-and-adding-users-to-a-site-using-add-new/)

I will run the idea of letting users self-register, but right now they are using a Hubspot form to collect that info already, and they may not want to lose the marketing touch from that.
