Allow very few customizations

  • Hi there,

    I’m JUST getting started with multisite development and I THINK I have a very basic question. This is either really easy or really hard. ??

    I want to create a network site where users can create their own sites but with a LOT of restrictions:

    • (I think) There would be only one template for them to choose from.
    • They could choose from six headers that I have picked
    • They can choose from maybe 3-4 specific layouts.
    • I want to restrict how many pages they can have
    • I may even want to restrict the names of those pages

    Is this easy or hard?

    The only way I can think to do this is to create individual child themes for each option, but there MUST be a better way!

  • Well, WordPress allows you to choose the themes they can use. Choosing headers sounds like a feature for a specific theme, not multisite related issue. Choosing layout, sounds the same. How many pages, I guess some kind of membership plugin could have that. I doubt it would have about the one for the names.

    I guess I’m wondering if there’s a plugin or something that will allow for such an arrangement. I want them to have really minimal, easy choices.
