I recognize that this is a edge case request, but I have a government agency client who has very carefully had their page content vetted by the legal department, and now needs to allow PR to add SEO to page/post content. They are very anxious about PR having access to change page/post content.

Is it possible to create a user (perhaps at the contributor level, so that they would not be able to publish or edit page/post content) that would be able to edit the Yoast SEO meta (snippet, Facebook description, etc.) for pages or posts that were created by other users? Or, through functions.php, can I grant a specific user access to Yoast SEO meta, but not page/post content?

I’m not sure this is even possible because to save Yoast SEO meta, you click the Publish/Update button in the editor interface….

Yoast SEO does have the ability to assign SEO Roles, and you can change the level of access a user has in regards to SEO related abilities by assigning a SEO user role. You can find more information on managing access using user roles at the following link: https://yoast.com/seo-roles/

?We also have more information on assigning a SEO user role at the following page: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/assign-user-seo-role/ and how to customize the SEO roles here: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/customize-seo-roles/

In addition you can use this 3rd party plugin to help further restrict/modify the ability of the user.

Right. But even with those roles, the user granted them edits the page content. I’m trying to find a way to allow a user to ONLY access the SEO portion of the page/post, without being able to edit content of the page/post.

I’m not sure if it’s possible to let a user edit the SEO information when they don’t have access to edit the content of the post/page. The save/update button is only available if you can edit the content of the post/page.
