Hi, I’m troubleshooting to figure out why a legitimate user is getting blocked. In the Spam Stoppers Admin under ‘Allow Requests’ there is a table with fields:

Time, IP, Email, Reason and URL

These fields are populated except for ‘Reason’, which is blank.
On the Spam Stoppers main page is shows a ‘Summary of Spam’ indicating how many times it’s blocked spam for different reasons. Shouldn’t this populate this field so I have an idea of why someone is getting blocked. Is something not working correctly or is this a flaw or shortcoming of the plugin?

    I’m using Spam Stoppers 6.12

    thanks,
    Kurt

  • As far as I know the reason should be filled in on the reports page.

You should download and install the latest stable version at my site https://www.blogseye.com on the beta page. This will fix several bugs.

    Hi Keith,
I updated the plugin to v6.13 but the ‘Reason’ field in ‘Allow Requests’ is still blank. Not just the older requests but a new request came in this morning and it’s still not indicating the reason.

By the way the ‘Log Report’ does not include the ‘Allow Request’ emails/ips.

Any clue as to why the ‘Reason’ field still isn’t being filled in on the ‘Allow Requests’ page? I’ve updated to v6.13.

    thanks,
    Kurt

I may get a chance to look at it this weekend. I have a feeling that the reason is lost when the user submits the captcha and then the request is resubmitted.

I seem to remember not wanting spammers to see the reason why they were being rejected so I commented out the part where I was keeping the reason as a hidden field on the form. I will check this.

    ok thanks Keith

Hi! I’m wondering if, if I approve a request (thumbs-up icon), does the user receive a notification that it was done? I hope so, because I have not emailed these blocked users after approving their request.

    Thanks

    No,

You have to do it yourself.

Oh, ok…thanks for letting me know. I will do it from now on.
