• I’m a news manager at a local tv station, and rarely, we have to delete a post. However, as a manager, I still need access to the story and what was written. It appears that I cannot open the post only on the CMS side without publishing it again. When I hover over the headline, below the headline, only RESTORE or PERMANENTLY DELETE appear.

Does RESTORE put it back in DRAFT mode, or does it publish it again? If it does re-publish it, can you make a change so website administrators can open the post to read what was in it?

  • You can choose to make it Private instead of deleting to Trash.

Unfortunately, it appears MAKE PRIVATE is not an option with our page. I only have ALL, MINE, PUBLISHED, SCHEDULED, DRAFT, and TRASH. Thank you anyway, Joy!

You listed the ways to filter the list, not the properties of the posts.

Here is what I see when I restored a post. It was in Draft when I trashed it, though.
Note that the Visibility is separate from the Status.

So if I publish it and give it a good slug, and then Trash it, when I restore it this is what I see:

So the slug is still not the original slug (not sure why, but it might be because I used the same post for testing Trash twice), but it is simple to Restore the post and use Quick Edit to make it Private or Draft and you can change the slug or not.
